I’m missing my Cammie-Cat today. “Goodnight stars, goodnight air, goodnight noises everywhere.” — Margaret Wise Brown Good Night, Moon   Good night, Cammie. I love you. I see your #cammiesstar twinkling at me. And at your Pepe Love-Cat, too.

Festival in the Sky

This year Roanoke’s Festival in the Park had to be moved from its traditional location in Elmwood Park to the open land along Reserve Avenue across from the Riverside medical complex near the base of Mill Mountain. The festival itself wasn’t much, but it was a much better venue from which to photograph the clouds [...]

For $30,969.30 shouldn’t I have ended up with a bionic arm?

Today I got the claim information for my hospital stay on December 18th. Total hospital and provider charges (in network): $30,969.30 Paid by plan: $18,375.82 My charges – copay: $150.00 So I ponder: Why the hell does hospital care cost so much? If I had gone in without health insurance and been able to pay privately, [...]

You’d have been 79 today. I miss being able to tell you I love you and stretching out my arms and saying, “I love you {{ t-h-i-s }}} much, and a little bit more,” and you’d raise your arms and say it back to me. Until one day you couldn’t raise your arms up anymore. And soon [...]

For all that I don’t get and all that I choose to give up, I am truly grateful.

This isn’t a particularly cheerful or uplifting post, but if you’ve ever been trapped by yourself, you might find it liberating. Sometimes learning is angry, ugly, and messy before it brings sweetness and light. I’m so grateful for all times that I asked God for something and He said, ”No.” Sometimes I ask for stupid shit. [...]

Please remember the forgotten at Christmas. You’d be surprised at who they are.

This is an updated version of a post I wrote last year with current information about how you or your organization can help the patients at Catawba Hospital this year through the state’s Operation Santa Claus program – and why I do it every year. Please share it with anyone you think might be interested [...]

When I tell the story of how my beloved spouse and I met…

…sometimes I fail to mention that he decided to introduce himself to me before he saw my face. He introduced himself to me because he liked the look of my butt from across the Roanoke-Salem Plaza parking lot. Happily, he didn’t feel the need to throw a bag over my head when he saw my [...]

JanesonA common position: Tinkering with my iPhone in Starbucks

You'd think that with all the time I spend working on the computer, I'd pick another way to spend my time. Alas, that is not the case. I've noticed - in my advancing age - that my brain is getting full. Since I don't want to take the chance of forgetting anything interesting (if only to myself), I thought it might be nice to have a place to offload the stories and minutiae that are filling it up so I can make room for more stuff.

Since you've found your way here, I hope that you find something that's interesting to you, too.
